US Permits Miss Forecast, Signal Cooling

Latest US building permits ran at annualized 1.413M, just under the 1.42M forecast, leaving issuances 7K below consensus for residential construction indicators.
Permits often lead starts and completions by several months, so the slight miss gives builders and buyers an early planning signal today.
Housing data alongside a steady core inflation gauge near ~3% suggested the central bank had little reason to turn more hawkish near term.
Some investors viewed softer permits as potential pressure on homebuilder shares and as a reason to prepare for higher market volatility risk.
The same cooling signals were expected to weigh on industrial metals and lumber, with copper especially sensitive to construction and manufacturing sentiment.
